Like a Good Neighbor, Trim Your Trees!

Sunday's Houston Chronicle has a well written Q & A by local attorney Ronald Lipman regarding trees on your property line. Bear in mind that while your neighbor's tree drops leaves on your yard and shelters birds that drop other stuff on your yard, you also benefit from the shade and beauty that tree provides. It's not like your neighbor's tree is some sort of curse on your home.

Your neighbor has the right to trim your tree. They also have the right to place a barrier to prevent the roots from your tree from causing damage to their property. However, if the pruning or the barrier kills the tree, and you have the time and inclination to sue your neighbor, you might be able to recover damages for the loss of the tree.

I'll bet you didn't know that.  I didn't!
